Crunch Time!

Posted on May 11, 2009

So it’s been a while, and I apologize for that. But as you can probably imagine we have been pretty busy!

All of the invitations are out and your RSVPs are coming in. I am so excited to have you all join us! It is definitely going to be a great day.

As I am writing this, I am sitting in the apartment that will be ours after we get married! We moved all of my stuff and the majority of Matt’s stuff in last weekend. I am really pumped to live by myself for a month. It’s definitely been strange the past couple of days, but very enjoyable. We went on our first grocery shopping trip together yesterday to get food for our dinners. It took us a while but it was fun – we’ll get faster as we get more experience too. It’s all so exciting!

The bridal shower is this weekend! My sister and sister-in-law are doing an amazing job of planning and getting everything ready. It’s so great to have them be a part of it!

My aunt and I got all of the flowers arranged and wrapped last weekend also! They are simple but very pretty – exactly how I wanted them. 🙂

Everything just seems to be falling in to place. Time is flying, but it’s so fun.

39 days left!

77 days!

Posted on April 2, 2009

Last weekend I took some of my family with me to David’s Bridal to try on dresses with the flower girl. Jordan (my niece) was so excited to go try on dresses. And she was so adorable when we got her there! I picked out two dresses at first for her to try on. I had already been looking online and narrowed it down to a few designs. The first one was very cute on her but it was a little too simple and made her look too old. So we put her in the second dress which had much more of a “princess” look to it. It fit her perfectly with just enough room for her to grow in the next 3 months, and she looked so stinking adorable in it. So we got it! She was so excited to take it home with her that day, and she loves her pink bow!

Right after that we got some lunch and then went to Micheal’s to look at flowers for our bouquets. I took my aunt with me because she is awesome at making flower arrangements. I was really looking for some pink and white daisies, but everywhere else I had looked didn’t really have anything that looked very good. We found some individual stems that looked pretty decent when we got there but as we walked around some more we found some pre-made clusters that looked very real. They had the perfect shade of pink and each cluster had just the right amount. My aunt is going to cut them and re-arrange them to look more like bouquets, so I am pretty excited about that. And the best part of all of it was that we got all the flowers and the supplies for $20! Pretty awesome, if you ask me.

I have been looking for a tiara in all kinds of places and haven’t found anything that I like so far. So Linda and I decided to look online. We checked ebay and I found some that I really liked. It took a while for us to narrow it down to one but we finally did it and we bid on it Friday. We won it and it is here! I haven’t had a chance to see it yet because it’s at Linda’s house, but I am really excited!

We are working on finishing up the invitations this weekend. Tomorrow, actually. They are turning out really great! I’m definitely happy that we decided to do them ourselves.

Things just keep coming along. Linda and I still have to look more at making my veil. Previous attempts have not gone so well. Karen and I are also going to work on getting the flowers arranged soon! Check back for more updates and be watching for your invites!

Stuff and Things

Posted on March 15, 2009

So, our progress has been a little slower the past couple weeks, but we’re still moving! We finished our registries at Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target. We decided not to register anywhere else because it just gets complicated, and it took us way too long to do the first two. Anyway, they’re both available online.

Annnd.. we got our apartment!! It is the same place that Matt used to live. I get to move in at the beginning of May and get everything all situated before the wedding. I am really looking forward to living by myself for about a month! Now we just need some furniture.

This week we’re going to work on getting our invitations out. We just need to finish up getting a few addresses and get them printed and then they’ll be out! We are going to try to hand-deliver all that we can, you’ll see why when you get them. So watch your mailbox if you don’t live in Columbus!

I’ll have a better update next time!

The Hunt

Posted on February 16, 2009

So, we have been looking everywhere to try and find Matt’s wedding ring. What he wants is very simple, but also very specific, and no one has it! He really just wants a plain, rounded, tungsten band with a brushed finish. It is really easy to find a plain, rounded, tungsten band with a polished finish. And it it also really easy to find decorative tungsten bands with brushed finishes. Neither of those would cut it though.

Luckily, last week I was walking around the mall after getting Matt’s Valentine’s day gift and wandered in to a newer jewelry store there called Diamonds Are Forever. As soon as I walked in, the guy started talking to me, so I explained what Matt wanted to him. He said, “I know exactly what you are looking for!” and pulled out a catalogue full of rings. He flipped right to a page full of tungesten rings and pointed at exactly what we wanted. I was totally surprised and told him that we would definitely be back.

Yesterday after church, we went back so I could show Matt that they had what he wanted. After some careful deliberation about prices, sizes, and the like, we ordered it! It felt very good to get that finished, and we get to go pick it up on Friday!

Friday the 13th

Posted on February 16, 2009

Matt and I both had last Friday off, so we spent the whole day together. We planned to get my new bank account set up, register at both Bed Bath and Beyond and Target, order Matt’s ring, get a new case for my cell phone, and go to a birthday party for one of my co-workers. Well, we got two of those things accomplished!

First we got my new bank account set up at Telhio – where Matt’s mom works and where Matt has his account. We got all of that taken care of, but it took us a little longer than expected. It was all worth it though, because handling money between us will be much easier before the wedding.

Then we had a little detour in our plan because Matt’s mom needed us to go pick up her new tire from the shop for her. It didn’t really take that long, and I ran into a friend from high school that I haven’t seen in forever, so it was actually a fun detour!

After we got all of that taken care of, we went to register at Bed Bath and Beyond. We first went to check out the way they do their registries a few weeks ago, and the guy there told us we didn’t need an appointment and we should probably block out 30-40 minutes to register. On Friday, the woman who set everything up for us there was really cool and we actually had fun talking about everything with her. The list they give you for everything you should register for is huge! It was a little overwhelming at first, but we took it one section of the store at a time and eventually got it all figured out. The man I talked to a few weeks ago lied to us though. It took us 2 1/2 hours just to register at one store! We did have a lot of fun with it though. You should have seen us – Matt walking around with the scanner gun… me with the clipboard and the pen. It was very typical.

By the time we got done registering we only had an hour before the party started! The dinner was at Old Bag of Nails in Old Hilliard, which I highly recommend. We had a really good time with everyone and the food was awesome. In the end, we only got a few things accomplished, but it was probably the best Friday the 13th I’ve ever had!

Jewelry!

Posted on January 22, 2009

At the January Gallery Hop we met a really awesome lady at one of the galleries that makes glass jewelry. She mostly makes pendants but she is branching out into bracelets, earrings, rings, etc. while we were there we were looking for a necklace that I can wear with my dress. We started talking to her about what we were looking for and she told us that she can personalize things and make what we want. We thought this would be a really unique and original thing to have for our wedding. So we Googled her, looked up her website, and met with her on Tuesday night.

It was really fun to look through all the things that she can make and pick out what we liked and didn’t like. We told her the general idea of what we are looking for and she is going to whip something up for us! I am really excited about this. She makes some really cool stuff! Check out her site!

Registries, Cakes, and Tuxes.. Oh My!

Posted on January 16, 2009

We’re making progress! This is all such a fun experience. I get more and more excited as the days pass! We have really accomplished a lot in the past couple of weeks.

Registries: We started looking at places to register. So far we have Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond, and we are considering Macy’s. We keep hearing that it is very fun to register.. so we will see!

Cake: On Tuesday, we met with Alli who is making our cake. We basically nailed down all the major details, and we’ll be tweaking it as it gets closer to the date. She is very talented, and she is going to do a fantastic job!

Tuxes: All of the tuxes have been picked out! We are getting them through MW Tux. If you’re a groomsman, you should probably go get yourself fitted by the end of February, because that’s when prom season starts. Who really wants to wait in an hour-long line with a bunch of high school boys to get fitted for your tux? I know I wouldn’t! They are going to look amazing, though!

Dresses: My sister/matron-of-honor, Dana, and I went last night to pick out the dresses that the bridesmaids will be wearing. They are very cute! You girls will also probably want to get fitted/ordered by the end of February or early March.

Videography: We met with Chris, our videographer a few days go. We are really excited about using his talents. He’s going to offer more than we could have asked for!

Invitations: We also picked out our invitations a few days ago. We’re going to try to be pretty creative with them, so watch the mail in a few months and you will see!

Both of us feel very productive as far as the planning is coming. I am so glad things are just falling into place for us. It’s been awesome so far! Feel free to leave suggestions or comments for us. We’ll keep you posted for more info!

Also – we set up an on-line RSVP on our website! So when you get your invitation, you don’t have to worry about filling out a card and sending it in the mail. You can do it all right here! Exciting, right?

Dresses

Posted on December 21, 2008

Good news… I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico. Just kidding. I found my dress!

It was a very fun experience. Linda (Matthew’s mother), my mom, and my friend Alana all went out with me last Saturday to try on dresses. They were all so helpful! My mom helped me get in and out of all the dresses because some of them were a pain in the butt. Alana and Linda both took plenty of pictures and wrote everything down in a notebook for me to help me keep track of which dresses I liked.

I was a little worried about finding the right one because normal dresses do not look good on me at all. I knew the basics of what I wanted so that helped a lot. We started at David’s Bridal, and after trying on 3 or 4 dresses that looked really pretty, I found one that I really liked. We asked the sales girl to hold it for me while we went to a few more places. I pretty much knew that it was mine though, because it was everything that I wanted, and it fit perfectly!

We tried a few more places, like Holly’s Unique Weddings and Gowns in Plain City, and a consignment shop in Grandview that had a lot of wedding dresses. I didn’t really find anything that I liked in either of those places. At Holly’s Linda found a veil that had the same pattern as the dress I liked at David’s. She showed it to me and I said, “Oh! That matches my dress!” Alana caught me and said, “Did you hear what you just said?” After that I pretty much knew that we had to go back.

We went back to David’s very quickly because I had to be at church soon for band practice. I tried it on again, and I knew we had to get it. There was a small complication with the prices, because the size 8 said it was marked down to $299 and the size 6, that I needed, said it was $399. Alana, thankfully noticed the size 8 price, and the sales lady gave us that price! It was such a fun day! I feel very relieved to have that picked out after hearing horror stories of some brides not finding their dresses for a very long time. I can’t post the dress on here because then Matthew could cheat and see it. So, if you would like to see what it looks like, ask me!

Engagement

Posted on December 18, 2008

I thought it might be a good idea to tell the story of how Matt proposed. I am sure I have told a lot of you, but for those I haven’t, read on!

On the morning of Thanksgiving (November 27th) Matt was supposed to come pick me up to go to Hudson at 9 am. So I set my alarm for 7:30 and at 7:32 I woke up and my alarm hadn’t gone off yet. I was staring at my phone trying to figure out why my alarm didn’t go off and then my door started to open. I was very confused because nobody ever just opens my door – my parents always knock first. So I was all disoriented because I just woke up, my alarm didn’t go off, and someone was opening my door without knocking. And then Matt walked in.

I looked at him like he was crazy because I definitely knew he wasn’t supposed to be there for another hour and a half. He walked in and said, “Happy Thanksgiving-Birthday!” **Now you need to know that we decided after our birthdays in September that we were going to start celebrating our birthdays with gifts on Thanksgiving. It is Matt’s favorite holiday and we thought it would be a fun tradition.** He was holding a white box with a pink ribbon and a white bow, which was very creative wrapping for Matt since he HATES to wrap!

I asked him what he was doing at my house so early and he said he brought me a present. I wasn’t thinking that it would be the ring at all; first, because the box was way too big and second, he did his very best to make sure I thought he wouldn’t be ready by Thanksgiving. So he asked me if I wanted to open my gift now or later. Of course, I said now! I opened the box and it was the gloves that I had told him I wanted for Christmas. Thinking this was very sweet I just said thank you and held the box in my lap.

Matt then asked me if I wanted to try on the gloves. I said oh, of course and when I pulled the gloves out of the box, the ring was on the left glove on the ring finger! I was totally shocked! He told me to give him the ring, so I did, and he got down on one knee and did a very sweet proposal. I obviously said yes, after crying a little. It was a very very sweet proposal that Matt lost many hours of sleep over.

Needless to say, it was the best Thanksgiving ever!
